Prishtina, February 8, 2019 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo considers the banking sector in Kosovo a sector of vital importance for the economic development of the country. A stable banking system is considered a precondition for increased investments in the country as well as attracting foreign direct investments. Considering its importance, Kosovo is lucky to have a stable banking system.
AmCham expresses its concern regarding the continuous robbery in banks which lately have become a threat to the whole sector and the society and are now at alarming levels.
Armed robbery threatens not only the overall perception of the banking sector, but it is also a direct impact against the economic development of the country, and, consequently, against the future of Kosovo. In foreign investors’ perception, such cases give the impression of a weak system of rule of law and order, thus increasing insecurity in doing business.
AmCham urges security authorities and other responsible institutions in the country to treat this issue of paramount importance by undertaking stricter measures in providing higher security for banks and other businesses, as well as maintaining the overall stability in the country.
