Prishtina, January 21, 2020 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo and Kosovo Chamber of Commerce welcome the recent initiative on resuming of Kosovo-Serbia commercial flights. AmCham and KCC consider this as a step forward in the improvement of the neighborly relations as well as the freedom of movement of people and goods between the countries of the Western Balkans region.
AmCham and KCC reiterate that free trade is an essential factor in enabling economic growth through increased efficiency and innovation, trading opportunities, higher quality and lower priced goods for the consumers of the region, therefore barriers to trade are not in line with the spirit and commitments in the context of free trade agreements, framework of regional cooperation set under the Berlin process, and the commitments undertaken by countries to advance the European integration path.
Regional economic cooperation would only improve the perception of the region in the eyes of foreign investors, therefore, resuming of flights will provide vital economic benefits, and will significantly contribute to the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, and the wider region.
Finally, AmCham and KCC urge the authorities in Kosovo and Serbia to undertake all the necessary steps to implement the agreement accordingly.
