Prishtina, March 24, 2023 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo hails the recent EU-facilitated accord between Kosovo and Serbia on the normalization of relations. AmCham firmly believes that the agreement will unleash economic development opportunities for both countries, by improving the exchange of goods and services.
With both countries confirming their obligation to implement all past agreements, AmCham reiterates its call on Kosovo’s Government to join the common regional market initiative of Albania, North Macedonia and Serbia, as agreed in the Washington accord of September 4, 2020.
AmCham also calls on both countries to respect their previously undertaken commitments for investments in the road and railway infrastructure. Development of the transportation infrastructure, together with the mutual recognition of university diplomas and professional certificates will enable freedom of movement of goods and people, as well as freedom of provision of services, thus improving the mobility of businesses and professionals within the Open Balkans area.
Finally, recognizing the importance that the agreement will have for Kosovo, Serbia and the wider region of the Western Balkans, the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo will support further economic normalization efforts, advocating with the Governments in lifting of existing barriers, and providing networking opportunities for businesses across the region.
