Prishtinë, July 10, 2018 – After the discussion made in the Assembly of Kosovo on changing the law on vehicles, the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo sent to all members of the Assembly a letter voicing its concerns regarding the initiative on allowing imports of vehicles older than ten years.
AmCham voices again its position that changing the Law no. 05/L-132 would increase the levels of pollution which are reportedly higher and in certain periods of the year, such as the previous winter, raise concerns amongst citizens. Such implications in the environment could also affect Kosovo citizens’ safety and health. Furthermore, such an action would be in opposition with the initiatives in the European Union countries on reducing gas emissions which is a result of the light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles.
Furthermore, American Chamber of Commerce believes that the inefficiency of old vehicles undermines the short-term profits which might be generated from the import of these cars. Therefore AmCham urges members of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo to not approve the initiative of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Development, Infrastructure, Trade, Industry, and Regional Development.
