Prishtinë, November 29, 2018 – Strengthening the private-public dialogue is a precondition in guaranteeing a safe environment for investments. The American Chamber of Commerce strongly believes that the private sector as the most important stakeholder in achieving sustainable economic development should have the opportunity to make its contribution to public policy drafting process, thus enabling the empowerment of the private sector, attracting foreign direct investment, fighting corruption and resulting in efficient rule of law.
It is unfortunate that numerous decisions and recently approved draft laws have been made without a proper discussion between stakeholders, including here the private sector and its representatives.
In this aspect, AmCham also expresses its concern regarding the National Council for Economic Development failing to properly function as a mechanism, which during the previous years has provided a unique opportunity in developing the private-public dialogue and being able to present the requests of the business community to the government institutions.
This is a step back in the process of empowering the private-public dialogue and the improvement of the environment of doing business, which also is reflected in the World Bank report on the Ease of Doing Business for 2019, where Kosovo is now ranked four positions lower compared to a year earlier.
AmCham once again reiterates its call on empowering the dialogue and to start the re-functionalization of the dialogue formal mechanisms, by expressing its commitment for continuous constructive contribution in the furtherance of economic development and increasing investments in the private sector.
