Prishtina, December 23, 2019 – The Tax Administration of Kosovo will continue to contribute to the business environment, focusing on equal treatment of taxpayers, and continuing its cooperation with the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo. This was stated during a meeting of AmCham members with the General Director of the Tax Administration of Kosovo, Ilir Murtezaj.
The Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce, Arian Zeka, stated that it is to commend the approach of the Tax Administration, which even in such politically challenged circumstances, following the resignation of the Government, continues to correctly perform as an independent executive institution. He emphasized that AmCham remains committed to continue cooperating with TAK as one of the most important institutions for business operations.
The General Director of Tax Administration of Kosovo, Ilir Murtezaj, mentioned TAK’s numerous developments in the last 20 years, emphasizing that, compared to previous years, this institution has advanced in many processes with the aim of equal treatment for all businesses. As an example, he mentioned the increased efficiency in the process of revenue collection, debt collection, and reforms in reviewing taxpayer demands. Murtezaj added that despite these developments, there is still room for improvement and TAK is open to recommendations. He also spoke about measures taken to increase the integrity of tax officials, for which they are receiving support from the programs of international organizations, including the United States Agency for International Development.
During this meeting, AmCham members had the opportunity to raise various concerns and receive response from TAK representatives, while also offering their recommendations to the Tax Administration of Kosovo, with particular emphasis on combating the informal economy.
