Prishtinë, October 11, 2018 – In order to ensure that the legislation is in line with the industry’s needs and stimulate economic development in the country, the business community should be included in the early stages of legislation draft process, since this directly impacts the private sector. This was the main conclusion from the breakfast for executives organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, where businesses had the opportunity of discussing with the Minister of Trade and Industry, Endrit Shala. This breakfast was hosted by HIB Petrol/Emerald Hotel.
Arian Zeka, Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, welcomed the new Minister, emphasizing that this ministry is of great importance for all businesses in the country, considering the high number of areas this Ministry covers, starting from competition, consumer protection, to industrial property. He expressed AmCham’s readiness in giving its contribution in these areas that affect the business environment in the country.
Ilir Ibrahimi, President of AmCham Board of Governors, mentioned the importance of having a constructive dialogue between the private and the public sector as the only option of ensuring private sector growth in the country. Regarding this, Ibrahimi clarified that AmCham represents businesses from various economic sectors, resulting always in balanced and reasonable requests towards institutions.
Minister of Trade and Industry, Endrit Shala, mentioned some priorities of the ministry he leads which are connected directly with the private sector in the country, mentioning that he views AmCham as a very constructive partner. Amongst the ministry’s initiatives, he mentioned the importance of considering the adjustment of the oil market, and initiatives on consumer protection. The Minister also said that, in the upcoming days, he will have the chance of addressing trade challenges with the Minister of Trade and Industry of the Republic of Albania, in order to enable trade and cooperation growth between both countries.
Further on, businesses present had the chance to discuss with the minister on numerous issues related to the private sector in the country, including here the Law on Business Organizations, Law on Consumer Protection, and the Law on Internal Trade, as well as the implementation of laws regarding the industrial right in the country.
