Prishtinë, 19 dhjetor, 2018 – Sustainable electricity supply for the private sector is crucial in business operations. The lack of sufficient production in this sector reflects in the supply instability, which results in great losses for businesses. This was said today during the roundtable organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo where it was mainly discussed about the current situation on energy supply in the country.
Valdrin Lluka, Minister of Economic Development, informed the participants about the current situation in regards to energy supply in Kosovo. He said that the Ministry he leads is committed to fit the market needs by providing sustainable energy supply for businesses as well as the citizens. Minister Lluka added that the power outages which usually occur are due to overload and renovations in the electricity network, and that the power cuts are not due to the lack of production, since energy imports are covering this. Lluka also said that due to political reasons and the non-fulfillment of the agreements with Serbia, the interconnection line with Albania has failed to function, which has delayed the planned investments of TSM.
Petrit Pepaj, Menaging Director of Energy Regulatory Office, said that this institution has facilitated energy supply for businesses by offering a 15% discount starting from 2015 until now. He mentioned the recent unstable level of energy due to lack of sustainability in power plants, by saying that the lack of the new capacities in this sector is the main obstacle in its development. Pepaj said that the consumer is the main priority of ERO, which is working on the monitoring sustainable energy supply in order to avoid the unnecessary energy outages.
Further on, businesses present had the opportunity to address their concerns and challenges that they are facing in this regard, by calling upon relevant institutions for commitment in this aspect.
