Prishtinë, October 30, 2018 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo hosted a viewing group to the webchat organized by the U.S. Department of State titled “Disability Employment: Removing Barriers to Prosperity in Europe” on the occasion of the National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) in the United States of America.
The discussion featured accessibility experts and assistive technology innovators who discussed how businesses benefit from the expertise and skills that people with disabilities offer and how a lack of accessibility excludes them from the workforce and hinders economic growth.
Charlotte McClain-Nhlapo, Advisor in the World Bank, David Capozzi, Executive Director for the U.S. Access Board, and Paul Schroeder, Director of Public Policy with AIRA, a technology company specializes in assistive technology, emphasized the importance of providing technical assistance to people with disabilities, the implementation of laws that facilitate their employment, and also presented tax incentives for businesses hiring people with disabilities.
Further on, participants in this discussion were informed about the U.S. policies in employing people with disabilities and also about future plans in this direction.
