Prishtina, June 22, 2017 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo once again urges on the Government to suspend the implementation of the Law on Health Insurance, specifically the collection of health insurance premiums, scheduled to begin on July 1, 2017.
Reasons underpinning the decision to postpone the implementation of the Law on Health Insurance would include the failure to meet many of the criteria set by law before starting the collection of premiums and other ambiguities that have caused confusion among the business community, including the specified period for the establishment of the new government after the latest parliamentary elections.
The American Chamber reiterates its recommendation for the implementation of the Law on Health Insurance and the collection of premiums to be postponed until January 1, 2018, or until the amendment of the Law on Health Insurance according to the Legislature of 2017, whichever occurs later.
Futhermore, the American Chamber will request from the new Government that the process of amending this law should to be made through a comprehensive dialogue with relevant stakeholders that would enable an effective implementation of its provisions.
