Prishtina, 11 July, 2019 – Although fiscal policies facilitate the operations of the private sector in the country, businesses still encounter various issues regarding the tax legislation and customs procedures. This was said during the fiscal policies forum organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, whereby businesses discussed the difficulties and barriers they face in regards to the Tax Administration of Kosovo and Kosovo Customs.
AmCham Executive Director, Arian Zeka, said that the AmCham is committed to increasing the partnership with these institutions in providing business recommendations about issues that are challenging for them, adding that the cooperation between public institutions and business representatives is necessary. While Remzi Uka, Chief Executive Officer of AFAM Group, said that such discussions with relevant stakeholders about business operations and barriers they face in trade or other sectors serve as a platform where businesses can address their challenges in the environment of doing business.
Director of Kosovo Customs, Bahri Berisha, said that amongst the main strategic objectives of the institution he leads are the development of businesses through trade incentives and the advancement and simplification of customs procedures. Berisha added that businesses still face many problems in customs procedures and legal barriers that hinder their development. He reassured that Customs is committed to continue the partnership with the private sector, and will remain transparent and open to work closely with businesses that work based on trade principles.
General Director of Tax Administration of Kosovo, Ilir Murtezaj, amongst others, mentioned the drafting procedure of new laws in tax legislation which directly affect businesses. Murtezaj said that one of the main goals of establishing fiscal policies by TAK is to create stability in the market by improving the legislation and advancing businesses through tax incentives, adding that the cooperation with the private sector is key in this regard.
