The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo welcomes the establishment of the new Government of Kosovo at a time when the country is in dire need of advancing the business reform agenda. Coping with the consequences of COVID-19 in the economy as well as a dynamic legislative process must be the top priorities of the new Government of the Republic of Kosovo.
The approval of a comprehensive economic recovery package which must be a product created through a dialogue process with all important stakeholders in Kosovo must be of tremendous importance. The package should provide proportional coverage of the damage caused to all sectors after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, but at the same time serve as a framework for the overall restructuring of the country’s economy.
The American Chamber of Commerce reiterates its earlier position that the new Government’s program must highlight the addressing and resolving of issues related to the human capital, namely reducing the skills gap, functionalizing the rule of law, and removing barriers on the free movement of goods, services and capital, as well as continuous reforming of the business environment which would be a stimulus for foreign and domestic investment.
Active public-private dialogue through existing or new mechanisms must enable the addressing of difficulties faced by foreign investors, as well as private sector enterprises in general.
