Women’s Inclusion and Empowerment, Panel Discussion at AmCham

Prishtina, March 7, 2024 – The American Chamber of Commerce hosted a panel discussion on “Women Leading the Future of Banking: Fostering Innovation and Inclusion” to promote a culture of inclusivity and empowerment. At the forefront of this transformative journey are three remarkable women – Mimoza Godanci, Iliriana Toci and Eda Vaso Shaqiri – whose stories epitomize the commitment to breaking gender barriers and reshaping the narrative of women in finance.

The panel was moderated by Eda Vaso Shaqiri, CEO at Unioni Financiar. Eda focused on the transformation of gender dynamics in the financial sector and emphasized the importance of gender inclusivity. She also highlighted that women are by nature more communicative, more responsible in the context of the risks that the company takes.

Mimoza Godanci, CEO at BPB, discussed the large number of shareholders at BPB and their concerns about electing a woman to the board, which afterwards led to a great choice with positive results. Godanci noted the successful gender equality efforts to address salary negotiation disparities. She also highlighted the narrowing of the pay gap between executives and staff, and the introduction of flexible working hours on Fridays.

Iliriana Toci, Member of the Management Board for Retail at Raiffeisen Bank Kosovo, discussed gender equality in management at her workplace. In addition, Toci noted that about 52% of the heads of department are women. She also pointed out the common prejudices of women themselves for avoiding leadership roles, that include not having children yet, not married or other reasons. As a key point of her discussion for women was not to wait for the ideal time, because that time is not going to come. Furthermore, Iliriana Toci explained that among the benefits for the employees of Raiffeisen Bank, they organize meetings with yoga trainers for women and girls on maternity leave, where she is the motivational speaker.

This powerful workshop underscores the ongoing efforts to break down gender barriers and reshape the narrative of women in finance. As these influential leaders continue to inspire change, the event marks an important step toward a more inclusive and empowered future for the banking industry.
